The long Minnesota winter

It seems that the long Minnesota winter just got even longer!

“There’s one good thing about snow, it makes your lawn look as nice as your neighbor’s.” – Clyde Moore

Yesterday, my brother David came with his snowmobiles and he and Bob went out on the trails  for 5 hours. Before they left I checked the temperature and it was already 40 degrees! We had a big melt going on and by the end of the day the sidewalk to the cabins was clean. Late in the afternoon the wind started to pick up and by 8:00 p.m. it was gusting to 40mph. That kind of wind never makes for a very good nights sleep. The weather alarm went off in the middle of the night which is pretty unusual for winter. They said wind gusts were as high as 48 mph! When we got up this morning our sidewalk was once again covered by drifts.

I went out to check on a stray cat we have been feeding all winter. All  of the access holes where he lives were completely drifted shut. I scooped snow out from a couple of his favorites hoping he was there. I left him some food and water. When I went back to check a couple of hours later the food had been eaten so at least I know he’s not trapped somewhere. (the water was frozen)

The wind is slowly going down. We had a beautiful sunset and a better day is coming tomorrow – and an hour early!
